Students are being taught this process and will be expected to use it when they have a conflict with another student:
Detentions are given as a consequence for serious infractions of school rules such as fighting, disrespectful behavior towards a staff member or maliciously damaging school property. Parents will be contacted to make arrangements for all detentions. After school detentions are served in the classroom or office area. Transportation is the responsibility of parents. (Inappropriate behavior during detentions will result in a second detention or in-school suspension.)
In-school suspensions are the next most severe action a school can take in response to a violation of school rules. Serious fights, blatantly disrespectful language and/or behavior and a record of continued disregard for rules constitute reasons for the institution of in-school suspension. Parents will be contacted when a child is to serve an in-school suspension These will also be served in the designated areas for a period of time determined by the principal or his designee.
School Board policy allows the principal or his designee to assign a student to in-school suspension, or out of school suspension for a period of ten days or less for violations of school rules. All suspensions will be assigned in accordance with due process procedure. A copy of the school board policy pertaining to student conduct and discipline is available in the school office.
Out-of-school suspensions are the most serious consequence the school can impose, short of expulsion. These are given in response to the most serious infractions or continued disregard for rules.
