VERMONT MY HOME

The Town of Guilford’s yearlong celebration of its 250th anniversary moves into its 11th month with a program by T. Namaya at Broad Brook Grange on Saturday, Nov, 5, at 7 pm. Namaya, storyteller, poet, and humorist, has been on tour this Fall, with shows throughout Vermont. The tour is called Vermont My Home: A Celebration! The show takes its name from Namaya’s recently released CD, Vermont My Home, based on his collection of stories, music, and poems celebrating the Green Mountain state, and the author's home on Blue Heron Pond. Many of the photos and stories are also drawn from Guilford.

Basketball News

The boys' basketball practice started Tues. Nov 1 with 16 present. Fred Cheney has again volunteered to coach, assisted by Todd Bell, who will come to help, following his practice with a high school basketball team. We are fortunate to have Todd volunteer to work with our program along with fulfilling his responsibility with the high school team. At present, the practice time for the boys will be at 4:30, to accommodate the coaches' work schedule. If 4:30 turns out to be too early for the coaches, we may have to start at 5:00. We will keep you informed. The practice will go for an hour and a half from the starting time. We have only 9 boys who have their paper work in and 7 boys who have paid their @20 registration fee. If the $20 becomes a hardship, please contact either Principal John Gagnon or me. The money is used to help defray the cost of running the program. We need to have medical forms and permission slips filled out by a parent or guardian as a requirement for participation. Your signature tells us that you are aware that your son or daughter has your permission to play, along with having the necessary medical information that we need.

The girls' practice will start Mon. Nov. 7th with Chris Buckley as the head coach, assisted by Tara Henry and Bev Wright. This program, along with the boys is in excellent hands. The girls also need to have medical information and permission slips in prior to participation. We do allow a day of practice minus the necessary information. The girls' practice will be from 2:30 - 4:00. We are also asking for a registration fee of $20 to help with the expenses of running the progam. However, no boy or girl will be denied the chance to play if there is a hardship case. The program is open to all Middle School boys and girls running from Mon. thru Thurs. with very few Fri.'s involved. That day is left open for parents to use for dental appointments, etc.. I will have the game schedule out in about a week. I need to make one final check with the AD's of the schools in our league for any conflicts.

I will have information out next week on the K-5 basketball program. I want to start it with a registration on Sat. Nov. 12 from 10:00 - 11:00 with an organizational practice Sat. Nov. 19th. Grades 3-5 will be from 10:00 - 11:00 and K-2 from 11:00 - 12:00. The practice, following the organizational one, will start Sat. Dec. 3, 10, and the 17th, with a holiday break, and picking up Sat. Jan 7,14,21,28, Feb. 4,11, with a parent game on the 18th, followed by an ice cream-awards party. Any questions, call Tony Guarino 254-6807, or e-mail rita.tony@comcast.net.
