SPECIAL CONCERT TO BENEFIT THE 8TH GRADE featuring Sabir Mateen reeds, Raymond King piano, Larry Roland bass, and Mark Hundevad percussion on Friday, February 6 at 8 P.M. at the Vermont Jazz Center in Brattleboro.
This avant-garde concert is a great way to continue your evening at Gallery Walk, and warm up with a cup of fresh brewed coffee and homemade baked goods, all to benefit the eighth grade class at Guilford Central School.
The quartet will be visiting Brattleboro from around the country—and Canada. All four renowned musicians are former colleagues of the late Jazz trumpeter Raphe Malik, who lived in Guilford, and they have donated this concert to benefit the school.
Come and enjoy some great live music in a relaxed atmosphere.  Tickets are $12 each, $10 for students 18 and under and may be purchased at the door or at Everyone’s Books, Brattleboro and Cheshire Music in Keene.
In case of snow, the concert will take place on Saturday, February 7 at 8 P.M.

THIS PAST MONDAY~ MIDDLE SCHOOL students began taking part in a music enrichment program, provided by Friends of Music at Guilford. The FOM organization will be receiving a small grant to fund this year's programs, and hopes for funding to present more future workshops and concerts.
This first project brings percussionist Todd Roach for a six-week residency. Each Monday through March 16, he will lead the middle school students in a drumming workshop. To keep the groups small, the staff has divided the students into 3 groups, each of which will have a 45 minute session.
Roach has taught percussion-based residencies in schools throughout Vermont. He is the founder and co-director of two education programs in Brattleboro, the Kindle Farm School Music and Arts Program and The Loft Youth Percussion Ensemble. He has presented workshops in many schools in the area.
As a finale to the residency, Mr. Roach and the students will present a demonstration/concert for the school community on Monday, March 16, at 7 P.M. at the school. Parents may wish to mark their calendars! Friends of Music will will continue the enrichment program with a performance by the BUHS male a cappella ensemble, Shoulder Narrows, at Guilford Central School toward the end of the semester. Our thanks to the music teachers, middle school staff and principal for working with us on this new venture. - Don McLean, FOMAG/GCS liaison.
