AUCTION FEB 28 Friends of Music at Guilford will hold a major (we hope!) fund-raiser at West Village Meeting House on Saturday, Feb. 28. In addition to silent & live auctions, the evening is also a themed cabaret appropriate to this time of year, "An Evening in Rio." Guilford resident and native of Brazil, Cecilia de San Juan, and her spouse-assistant David Olle, will be preparing an authentic stew, both meat and veg versions. There will be many other foods, including appetizers and desserts. Latin American and Brazilian music will be performed from 6 P.M., when the doors open and the silent auction begins, until the live auction at 8 P.M. About 150 items will be auctioned, ranging from inexpensive books and CD's, cheeses, jams and jewelry, to a kayak, a new guitar, and trips to Rio, Bermuda and South Africa. Among the Guilford-made items are pottery by Shari Zabriskie and Laura Zindel, a rooster tuffet from Dianne Shapiro, placemats from Carol Schnabel, a custom-made poem by Verandah Porche, custom pastel by Evelyn McLean, and a DVD of home movies from the 1970's filmed by Evelyn & Don McLean. Proceeds support the year-round activities of Guilford's only arts organization, including the music enrichment program at Guilford Central School. Admission to the evening is $15 (which includes all food & entertainment) and $10 for students. For more
