Question:
What are some things that the Guilford Central is doing to get involved with diversity initiatives?
Answer:
There are many things happening at Guilford to help teach diversity such as Chinese culture and language, social skills, Adventure Ed (a middle-level program run by counselor Jason Touchette). Also, our social ed programs like mixed age group, all school meeting and reading buddies help us build community in our school.
Question:
What are some things you would like to see happen, or are planning to do in the next couple years?
Answer:
We would really like to have buddies from different schools such as Brattleboro or New Hampshire so the kids can see how different their lives are from ours. We were thinking about setting up a pen pal system with a school from Boston or New York; then we could take a field trip to see their school, and where they live,
Next year the teachers will be taking training on Responsive Classroom, a program to help them work with different classes to build community and teach kids that all kinds of different people can live together.
