About the Gazette
The Guilford Gazette was started in 1994 as a service learning activity in the middle school at Guilford Central School. It is now an important part of the eighth grade curriculum.
The newspaper is published three times a year by the eighth graders and their school and community advisors. It is distributed by mail to everyone with a Guilford mailing address, and all the costs are covered by advertising. The school budget funds a coordinator position.
In addition to the editorial, advertising, production and circulation staffs, there is a year book staff and a web page staff. In the spring, seventh graders apply for the positions they want, are interviewed and selected by eighth graders and advisors, and then are trained before the eighth graders graduate.
The Gazette is work that provides an important service to the Guilford Community. In a recent survey, respondents overwhelmingly said that they thought The Gazette was “an important source of town information.”
